More than 700 cops were affected by Typhoon ''Ulysses'' which hit the country last week, according to the chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday.
Police General Debold Sinas said they were able to help 746 cops, including a P5,000 cash assistance.
Sinas said he give a directive that all policemen affected by the typhoon should be in police camps or stations instead of evacuation centers.
“We document the 746, and gave them P5,000 each,” he said.
“We brought them to different stations… We also gave them relief goods and rice…. Those whose houses were flooded, we already gave them aid and I talked to the DPCR (Directorate for Police Community Relations) to give at least P5,000 so that they can repair their houses,” he said.
Sinas admitted that affected cops are in low morale due to the typhoon which affected their families.
Sinas said they continue to provide assistance in affected provinces, especially in Cagayan Valley.
Sinas said that President Rodrigo Duterte is satisfied on how police responded during the calamity.
“During the cabinet meeting of the President there (Cagayan), I was there and I was happy that the President was very satisfied with the actions and response of the different government agencies… We are part of it and we are very happy that we did our job well,” Sinas said. Ella Dionisio/DMS
