The chief of the Godod municipal police station was arrested by the Philippine National Police- Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (PNP-IMEG) in Zamboanga Del Norte last Thursday for robbery and extortion.
Police Brigadier General Ronald Lee, IMEG director, said Police Captain Haran Ulah was arrested around 4:58 pm in an entrapment operation inside the police station.
They received complaint that Ulah was asking for P10, 000 protection money in exchange for the unhampered treasure hunting activities of an unnamed complainant in Sitio Riverside, Barangay Raba
“We have arrested another police officer accused of extortion in line with our continuing implementation of General (Archie Francisco) Gamboa’s directive to go after rogues in uniform regardless of their rank and stature,” Lee said.
Recovered from Ulah are the P5,000 marked money, his issued M16 rifle and cal. 45 pistol, and two cell phones.
Lee assured the public that they will immediately and properly act on all complaints against erring police personnel being forwarded to their office.
“There will be no respite in our crackdown against police scalawags and other rogues in government service despite the ongoing strict enforcement of quarantine measures to help prevent the further spread of COVID-19,” he said. Ella Dionisio/DMS
