MWSS gives Maynilad five days to reply why water supply remains low in southern Metro Manila
May 21, 2019
The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewage System (MWSS) regulatory office on Tuesday has issued a notice of service obligation failure to Maynilad Water Services Inc. (MWSI) for failing to meet its service obligations, as indicated under the concession agreement.
'Last April 30, 2019, the MWSS regulatory office issued a letter to MWSI to call their attention on large number of complaints we had received regarding water service interruptions and low water pressure in large portions of the West Concession Zone, specifically in the consumers living in the south.
''More than 15 days has lapsed since our office alerted the MWSI of the complaints.Water service interruptions and low water pressure still continued to affect MWSI’s Concession Area even after we called their attention, '' the MWSS regulatory office said.
''It is for this reason that we have given MWSI five days upon receipt of the said notice to issue an explanation as to why they should not be penalized under Article 10.4 of the Concession Agreement,'' it said.
If found liable, the MWSS regulatory office will recommend to the MWSS Board of Trustees that fines and penalties should be imposed to Maynilad. DMS
