July 15, 2020

The two-week localized community quarantine in Navotas City and some areas in Malabon City will be implemented on Thursday.

Navotas City Mayor Toby Tiangco, who announced the lockdown onJuly 13, will be from July 16 to July 29.

Tiangco said this is to address increasing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the city.

“The lockdown is the opportunity for us to slow down the increasing number of positive cases and to achieve the 'flattening of the curve'. Our facilities are now full,” he said.

As of July 12, Navotas said in its Twitter account there were 59 deaths from 547 active cases. Twelve of its 18 barangays have seen increases in COVID-19 cases, its city health office said.

He added some of their frontliners are being infected by the virus.

“It will be hard for us if there will be more patients,” Tiangco said.

Tiangco said businesses will be allowed to operate and people can go to work. People doing non-essential activities, including children will have to remain home, news reports quoting Tiangco said.

Malabon City on Wednesday said five barangays will be under 15-day lockdown.
