Navotas police file charges on family positive for COVID-19 after party
July 7, 2020
The Navotas City Police has filed charges against a family who tested positive on the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) after holding a party despite the prevailing community quarantine, according to Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco on Tuesday.
Tiangco said 17 residents of H. Monroy Street, Barangay Navotas West were charged for attending a party last May 14 for violating a prohibition on social gathering as the city was still under enhanced community quarantine.
“The family’s utter disregard of safety regulations endangered their lives and all those living at H. Monroy. Their reckless act thwarted our efforts to prevent further transmission of COVID-19 and keep our people safe,” he said.
The complaint cited violations of Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code, Section 9 of RA 11332, RA 9271 and the Omnibus Guidelines on the Implementation of Community Quarantine.
The city government placed H. Monroy under lockdown last June 11 which lasted up to June 24, after 14 residents tested positive.
Of the 14, six attended the birthday celebration of one family member who was later confirmed to be COVID-positive.
“Let this serve as a stern warning to all violators: Even if we don’t catch you in the act, we will file criminal charges against you if investigation showed you flouted the quarantine order,” Tiangco said. Ella Dionisio/DMS
