The Philippine Navy's logistic support vessel, BRP Bacolod City left to pick up 23, 385 boxes of personal protective equipment (PPEs) against the coronavirus disease 2019 ( COVID-19) in Xiamen, China.

Lt. Commander Maria Christina Roxas, acting Navy public affairs director, said the ship under its skipper, Commander Rogelio Lachica, departed from Crabba Pier in Sangley Point, Cavite on Tuesday.

"Fleet commander, Rear Adm. Loumer Bernabe, along with the commander of the Fleet-Marine Ready Force, Commo. Toribio Adaci and other Fleet Forces and Group commanders witnessed the simplified deployment of the contingent of sailors and marines with complementary medical and security teams," she said.

Bernabe addressed the departing troops whom he regarded as heroes in the campaign against COVID-19 and emphasized the importance of this mission in alleviating the ordeal of medical frontliners fighting the coronavirus disease.

"Always bear in mind that you're doing this for our country and our people in the Glory of God," Bernabe said.

Roxas said the ship will pick up the boxes of personal protective equipment (PPEs) stacked in containers at Zhangzou Port in Xiamen.

"Thirty-three container vans courtesy of the Pacific Roadlink Logistics, Inc. (PRLI) Office in Angat, Bulacan are onboard as store room of the  PPEs," she added.

Roxas said the PPEs were bought by the Department of Budget and Management in China last month. Robina Asido/DMS
