The Philippine Navy logistics support vessel, BRP Bacolod City (LS550), arrived at the Port of Xiamen, China on Saturday.
Lt. Commander Maria Christina Roxas, Philippine Navy spokesperson, said the vessel was tasked to pick up 23,385 boxes of personal protective equipment (PPEs).
"LS550 was met by a PLA Navy ship with bow number 588 and escorted it to the designated berthing area at Zhangzhou Harbor for the hauling of PPEs to the onboard 33 container vans," she said.
Roxas said "the vessel shall immediately sail home upon completion of the hauling and is expected to arrive this May."
BRP Bacolod City left the Philippines on April 21 following the government's call to make use of the services of the PN to fetch and deliver to the country the remaining sets of PPEs that the Department of Budget and Management procured in China last month, said Roxas.
"The arrival of the PN vessel in China highlights the crucial capability of the PN to provide much needed logistical support and another manifestation of its full support to the government by devoting personnel, assets and resources to the resolve of defeating this pandemic," she added.
