NCRPO says 14 QC cops positive for COVID-19

May 8, 2020

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Friday said 14 cops from Quezon City Police District (QCPD) were tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In a statement, NCRPO chief Police Major General Debold Sinas said the QCPD conducted nasopharyngeal swabs last April 25.

“Among the 320 tested frontliners, four police commissioned officers (PCOs) and ten police non-commissioned officers (PNCOs) yielded positive results,” Sinas said.

With these results, the NCRPO has 47 cops infected with the virus.

The 14 positive patients are isolated and monitored at the Hinirang Hall in QCPD.  As part of precautionary measures, Sinas ordered all personnel who had direct contact with the patients to undergo quarantine and health monitoring by the Regional and District Health Service.

The NCRPO chief said the Quezon City District Director,  Police Brigadier General Ronnie Montejo, tested negative for the virus.

Sinas said they are conducting contact tracing and analysis to identify the people they may had close contact with and determine the source of infection.

Sinas underscored the importance of target group testing to all frontliners manning the Metropolitan Qurantine Control Points.

"This is the very reason we are pursuing the testing for all our frontliners. We understand that the risk of contamination is high because of the nature of our work,” he said.

“Nevertheless, we assure the public and their families that we are exerting efforts to continuously provide necessary protection for them on a regular basis," he added.

Sinas said they will continue to conduct the target group of testing to the men and women of NCRPO. Ella Dionisio/DMS
