NCRPO to deploy 5,000 cops for Duterte address
June 9, 2019
The National Capital Region Police Office ( NCRPO) is set to deploy around 5,000 police officers for President Rodrigo Duterte’s fourth State of the Nation Address.
In a radio interview, Police Major General Guillermo Eleazar said they are l finalizing deployment of their officers. He added that the number he gave is based on State of the Nation addresses in the last three years.
“Because we have (a) template now and what we can say right now that adequate number of personnel will be deployed,” he said.
“They will not have firearms but shields, truncheons but as a show of goodwill to our people that will conduct program. We remove the truncheon and baton because there will be the good agreement between police and those who will join the program,” he said.
Unlike the previous administrations, Eleazar said they will be considerate to those planning to hold protests on Duterte's address.
“We are very considerate because the President (Rodrigo Duterte) told us... But we will still have a meeting with them. We will let them do what is discussed in the meeting as long as this will not affect the overall peace and order situation,” he said.
Eleazar said they will arrest those who will violate the law and on what was agreed during the meeting.
Eleazar said so far they have not monitored any security threat. Ella Dionisio/DMS
