NDRRMC advises public to take precautions as ”Ulysses” nears Bicol

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) advised the public to take precautions as Tropical Storm'' Ulysses'' is the latest weather disturbance to affect the country.

As of 11  am, ''Ulysses'' was estimated at 475 km east of  Virac, Catanduanes with winds of up to 65 kph near the center and gusts of up to 80 kph while slowly moving northwest.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical  Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) also reported that the tailend of a cold front is  affecting the areas in extreme Northern Luzon.

"After consecutive cyclones pummeled the country, the public is once again advised to brace for another possible typhoon," said NDRRMC.

"NDRRMC advises regional DRRMCs (Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council) and local DRRMC offices that may be affected to continue monitoring weather updates, intensify warning dissemination, and implement prescribed precautionary measures," the council stated.

"NDRRMC Executive Director Ricardo Jalad also reminded RDRRMCs to make use of all available means of communication to ensure that warnings are well-cascaded to communities," it added.

The NDRRMC also noted that as part of their preparations the "RDRRMCs have been conducting Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment meetings to prepare the localities."

"The public is again advised to take precautionary measures as flooding and rain-induced landslides may occur in highly susceptible areas during heavy rainfall," it stated. Robina Asido/DMS
