Nearly 400 motorists given violation tickets since GCQ in NCR

June 28, 2020

The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) has already issued almost 400 violation tickets for motorists in Metro Manila since the start of general community quarantine (GCQ).

“We already issued a lot of tickets. Almost 400 since June 1 to date,” Police Colonel Wilson Doromal HPG-National Capital Region Director said in a radio interview on Sunday.

He added that since the start of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) last March the PNP already confiscated a lot of plate numbers, blinkers and gadgets being used by motorists as disguised to show that they were frontliners.

“But upon checking, it was found that they were not (frontliners),” Doromal said.

The police official said that even the cops and military personnel who were caught violating traffic rules, such as passing through fast lanes and having back riders, were issued violation tickets.

“If we catch them, we also issue tickets so that they will inform the others… We already coordinate with NCRPO (National Capital Region Police Office) to inform their personnel to avoid fast lanes. They are frontliners but that is designed for buses. They should be a good example,” he said.

Doromal reminded the public to have self-discipline and told the bus drivers to make sure that their passengers are always observing physical distancing. This was after a bus was accosted for letting passengers sit on the middle aisle of the bus.

“We should have self-discipline. If you know it’s not allowed, don’t do it because the cops cannot check on you 24/7 but we still have random checking,” he said.

He also told motorists to just let the cyclists use the bike lane.

“Let’s give it to them and respect the cyclists… we are calling them to not use the bike lane,” Doromal said.

More public transportation vehicles are expected to ply in NCR after the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) allowed UV express to operate starting June 29. Ella Dionisio/DMS
