NEDA to know impact of COVID-19 on economy by end of April
April 23, 2020
The National Economic and Development Authority is expected to have a picture of the impact of the coronavirus disease crisis on the economy by the end of the month.
Acting NEDA Director General and Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Karl Kendrick Chua said NEDA is currently conducting a survey of the effect of the enhanced community quarantine to the consumers and businesses.
Aside from such survey, a "bigger survey" will be conducted, he said.
"By the end of the month, we will know the impact or the total effect of the virus problem," Chua said.
NEDA is conducting a survey to help the agency craft the "recovery plan" once the crisis is over.
When President Rodrigo Duterte appointed Chua to NEDA, one of his marching orders is to prepare the COVID-19 recovery plan.
Chua said the recovery plan would come in after the virus problem is controlled.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the Department of Health reported that confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country rose to 6,710, with 693 recoveries and 446 deaths. Celerina Monte/DMS
