Nine northern provinces under signal number one due to tropical depression Odette

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration ( Pagasa) on Thursday placed nine provinces under signal number one due to tropical depression Odette.
Weather forecaster Obet Badrina said in a phone interview with the Daily Manila Shimbun the province of Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur are under signal number one.
He said Odette was spotted at 285 km east of Aparri Cagayan with maximum winds of 55 kph and gusts of 65 kph.
Odette is moving west at 30 kph. It is expected to landfall on Thursday night in the northern part of Cagayan.
Moderate to heavy rains will be experienced in central and northern Luzon. The rest of Luzon and Zamboanga peninsula will experience light to moderate rains, Badrina said.
Mindanao will experience isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.
Odette is expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility Friday night or Saturday morning moving towards the southern part of China, Badrina said. Alanna Ambi/DMS
