NLEX spending up to P20b as it expands expressway

NLEX Corp. is investing up to P20 billion to expand its expressway in the north to Bataan from Pampanga, the company said.
Rodrigo Franco, president and chief executive of NLEX said it is doing the engineering study for the NLEX Phase 3 Project, but estimated project cost is between P16 billion and P20 billion.
NLEX Phase 3 Project, is a 37.76-kilometer, two by two lane expressway from Sto. Tomas Pampanga to Dinalupihan, Bataan.
“We are set to submit the investment proposal to TRB (Toll Regulatory Board), Franco said.
Franco said the company expects to complete the right-of-way acquisition in two years and projected start of construction is by 2020.
NLEX earlier reported a net profit of P2.3 billion in the January to June period from last year’s P2 billion.
Toll revenues amounted to P5.7 billion, eight percent higher from P5.2 billion last year because of the increase in traffic from NLEX and SCTEX ( Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway) operations.
The average daily traffic for NLEX during the first half reached 233,652 daily entries, 7 percent higher than same period last year, while average daily traffic for SCTEX during the period reached 54,991 daily entries, 24 percent higher than the first half of 2016.
Non-toll revenues amounted to P83 million from P73 million due to increase in royalty fees, utility facility fees and other non-toll initiatives.
NLEX earlier submitted unsolicited proposals worth P122.43 billion to build two major expressway projects in Manila, namely the P60 billion C-5 Expressway and the C-5 Expressway project . DMS
