NPA killed in Misamis Oriental clash
February 24, 2019
An alleged member of the New People’s Army was killed in an encounter on Saturday with government military forces in Misamis Oriental.
The government troopers from the 58th Infantry Battalion clashed with the communist rebels led by a certain "Dallas” around 10 am in an uninhabited area in the hilly boundary of the municipalities of Talisayan and Medina in Misamis Oriental.
Lt. Col. Roy Derilo, commander of the Army's 58th IB, said the troops also recovered five high-powered firearms from the encounter site.
“Our relentless operations in the remote areas are meant to drive the NPA terrorists away from communities so their imposition of permit-to-campaign and permit-to-win fees on candidates for the upcoming elections will be ineffective and useless,” Derilo said.
Pursuit operation is still ongoing against the rebels who escaped.
Also, on Feb. 18, an NPA member was killed during pursuit operations by the Army's Special Forces in Lantapan, Bukidnon.
These operations came from information given by the locals.
“Civilians are tipping off precised locations of NPA terrorist hideouts and their activities as they declare the CPP-NPA as ‘persona non grata’ or undesirable people not welcome in their communities,” said Col. Edgardo De Leon, commander of the 403rd Brigade, securing Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental and Camiguin provinces. Ella Dionisio/DMS
