One Abu Sayyaf killed in Sulu

One Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) member was killed while another one was wounded in a 20-minute fire fight with government troops in Sulu last Tuesday. Col. Cirilito Sobejana, Joint Task Force Sulu Commander, said troops encountered around 26 Abu Sayyaf under Alhabsy Misaya at the vicinity of Bangalao Island in Tongkil town, around 4:35 am. He said the body of the Abu Sayyaf member was recovered after the clash. Sobejana said the government authorities also recovered M14 rifle. He said there are reports the group of Misaya is holding hostages but the military has not seen any victim. The Department of National Defense said earlier the Abu Sayyaf is holding a total of 31 hostages. (Robina Asido/DMS)
