One cop killed, three injured in Albay ambush by alleged NPA

A policeman was killed while three were injured after they were ambushed by alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Albay last Thursday.

Bicol region police said members of the 1st Albay Provincial Mobile Force Company were conducting major internal security operation in Barangay San Isidro, Jovellar muncipality when they were ambushed.

Police retaliated, resulting in a 15-minute firefight.

Killed was Patrolman Emerson Belmonte while Police Corporal Marlon Beltran, Patrolman Roy Resurrection and Patrolman John Mark Paz are recuperating at a hospital.

Hot pursuit operations are underway, police added.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief  General Archie Gamboa expressed his condolences to the family of Belmonte and assured that the surviving kin of the slain cop will receive all benefits.

He also instructed  Brigadier General Anthony Alcañeses, Bicol regional police director, to extend any financial and medical assistance to three wounded personnel for their fast recovery.

“We honor the service of PNP’s modern day heroes by ensuring that their families are taken care of. The surviving kin of Patrolman Belmonte will receive P250,000  from the President’s Social Fund; between P141,000  up to P181,000  as special financial assistance from the PNP; burial benefits worth P50,000; and P200,000 gratuity from the National Police Commission,” Gamboa said.
