Over 43,000 dengue cases in 1st half, deaths lower

Over 43,000 dengue cases have been recorded nationwide, with the figure including fatalities lower than the same period last year.
The health department’s dengue disease surveillance report said there are 43,770 cases from January 1 to July 1. This is 36.8 percent lower than 69, 297 cases in the same period in 2016.
There are 250 deaths, lower than 334 deaths during the same period.
Majority of dengue cases were in Central Visayas (6,281); National Capital Region (5,567); Central Luzon (5,147); Calabarzon (5,007); and Soccsksargen (4,861).
Provinces with the most number of cases are Cebu (11 percent); South Cotabato (6.3 percent); and Pampanga (4.6 percent).
But cases in NCR increased 24.9 percent year-ago 4,457 cases.
With the onset of the rainy season, the health department had called for an intensified efforts to eliminate mosquito breeding sites. DMS
