OWWA tasked to aid OFWs displaced by COVID-19
March 22, 2020
The Overseas Workers and Welfare Administration has been authorized to provide assistance to distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFW) amid the increasing cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) around the globe.
Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) Spokesperson and Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles announced on Sunday that OWWA may now aid OFWs to be accommodated in hotels or similar establishments.
Guidelines and certificate issued by OWWA in coordination with the Department of Tourism (DOT) and Department of Health (DOH) will be followed in facilitating the concerned OFWs, he said.
While the government has already barred the entry of foreign nationals, except for certain individuals, however, it continues to allow the entry of Filipinos who want to return home. Cristina Eloisa Baclig/DMS
