Palace asks establishments to abide by Data Privacy Act
October 12, 2020
Malacanang said on Monday establishments should adhere to the Data Privacy Act.
This was after the National Privacy Commission warned some establishments for allegedly mishandling information they gathered from their customers in their respective contact tracing applications.
"I think these individuals, better heed the advice of the National Privacy Commission. The privacy is a specialized law and the one who understands it is the Privacy Commission. So, let's heed the advice of those who have specialized knowledge on the law," said Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque in a televised press briefing.
With the coronavirus disease pandemic, one of the measures being implemented by the government is for establishments, either public or private, to get details of people entering their vicinity.
The information are being gathered for possible contact tracing in the event that a COVID-19 case occurred in such particular place. Celerina Monte/DMS
