Palace asks motorists to give MMDA’s no U-turn scheme on Edsa a chance
November 10, 2020
Malacanang urged on Tuesday motorists to give the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority a chance to implement the no U-turn scheme along EDSA.
In a televised press briefing, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the Palace trusts the decision of the MMDA of closing all U-turn slots along EDSA despite complaints of many motorists.
"The President (Rodrigo Duterte) is not micromanaging; let's give it a try," he said when asked of the Palace's comment on the matter.
He said if the latest move of the MMDA would not work, the agency could stop it.
"But meanwhile, we asked for everyone's cooperation because we continue to seek solution on the traffic problem," Roque said.
MMDA has started closing the U-turn slots along Edsa last September to pave the way for the EDSA Busway Project.
Under the project, the innermost lane of Metro Manila's main thoroughfare was designated as the exclusive lane for public buses.
According to MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim, the closure of U-turn slots along EDSA would make commuters travel through EDSA Carousel easier, more convenient, and faster. Celerina Monte/DMS
