Malacanang reiterated on Monday that the government is ready to provide security for Communist Party of the Philippines founder Jose Mari Sison once he comes back in the country.
"The President has said, he will take steps to ensure that he can come back to the country. He will guarantee his safety," Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a press briefing.
"He will probably even absorb the cost for Joma Sison to come home and participate in the peace talks," he added.
In a television interview, Sison said he is ready to go home as soon as there is "substantial progress" in peace negotiations between the communist group and the government.
The President has said he would give a 60-day "window" for the revival of the peace talks with the CPP-New People's Army-National Democratic Front.
He has urged Sison to return to the Philippines and participate in the peace negotiation.
Sison has been in exile in the Netherlands since 1987. Ella Dionisio/DMS
