Palace dares Trillanes to file impeachment case vs Duterte
September 13, 2018
Malacanang challenged on Thursday opposition Senator Antonio Trillanes IV to file an impeachment case against President Rodrigo Duterte.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque made the challenge following Trillanes' statement that Duterte's admission of having an audio recording of the supposed conversation of the Magdalo, communists and other critics of the President from a foreign sympathetic country could be considered as an impeachable offense.
"Let him file another impeachment complaint," he said in a press briefing.
But he expressed the belief that any impeachment complaint against Duterte would not prosper.
"Nothing will happen there (impeachment complaint) because it's nonsense," Roque said.
Duterte has said that he asked authorities to declassify a conversation of the Magdalo members, communist rebels and his other critics to allegedly overthrow his government. The alleged wiretapped conversation came from a sympathetic country.
The President has issued Proclamation No. 572, declaring as void ab initio the amnesty given to Trillanes by former President Benigno Aquino III, for allegedly not complying with the minimum requirements. Celerina Monte/DMS
