June 12, 2020
Malacañang extended condolences to the family of former Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr. who passed away on Friday. He was 73.
"We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones of former Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay, Jr, who died today, June 12," said Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque in a statement.
Yasay was chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission from 1995 to 2000.
Yasay was President Rodrigo Duterte's first Foreign Affairs secretary. But he served only for less than a year after the Commission on Appointment rejected his appointment in March 2017 due to the issue on his citizenship.
Upon his retirement in government service, he served as chair of the board of trustees of the Philippine Christian University.
"As we pay tribute and honor Secretary Yasay, we offer our sincerest prayers to the Almighty to grant him eternal repose," Roque said. Celerina Monte/DMS
