Palace says no factual basis to declare revolutionary gov’t
November 27, 2017
President Rodrigo Duterte has no factual basis to declare a revolutionary government at the moment and in the near future, Malacanang said on Monday.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque echoed Duterte's earlier statement amid a planned gathering of the president's supporters in Davao City on Thursday to urge him to declare a revolutionary government.
"We appreciate the calls of the president’s supporters for rev gov. But I think there’s no factual or legal basis as of now because the President has said that he will consider a revolutionary government if destabilizers will persist in their plan to have him removed from office," he said in a press briefing in Davao City.
Roque reiterated they do not see any threat now and in the near future.
He said Duterte has high approval rating and this could even go up.
"The president enjoys 80 percent approval rating; he was duly elected; he had a margin of 5 million votes from the second highest candidate. So he is the de jure, he is constitutional; he enjoys tremendous public support; he has the support of Congress. So we see no reason to declare a revolutionary government," he explained.
"My prediction is his popularity approval rating will even go up from the current 80 percent," he added.
Duterte supporters have been organizing a rally on November 30 in Davao City to call the President to act on the idea of having a revolutionary government, which could help him address the problems in the country faster. Celerina Monte/DMS
