Palace says no political unrest in Philippines
March 23, 2018
Malacanang has debunked observation the Philippines was experiencing political unrest.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque was reacting to Hollywood actress Hayley Atwell, who allegedly canceled her appearance in the 2018 ComicCon Asia in Manila this weekend due to political unrest.
Organizers reportedly cited political unrest in the Philippines for Atwell's decision not to come to the country.
"Wrong perception, because there's none," said Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque on Thursday in reaction to the supposed reason why the Hollywood actress cancelled her trip here.
Roque added, "Her loss, and who's she?"
Contrary to the organizers' claim, Atwell, in her Instagram post, expressed regrets for her failure not to attend the event in Manila this weekend.
In her message to her "fans in the Philippines," she said, "I'm so sorry to be missing the convention in Manila this weekend."
"I was looking forward to visiting your beautiful country and meeting you all. Unfortunately the changes to my work schedule have made it impossible for me to travel so far at this time. You will hear more about these projects soon and I'm excited to share them when I can. I hope to see you at future convention soon," she said. Celerina Monte/DMS
