Palace suspends gov’t work, classes in public schools due to “Henry”
July 17, 2018
Malacanang suspended on Tuesday afternoon work in government offices and classes in public schools at all levels in Metro Manila due to the inclement weather brought about by Typhoon "Henry."
Memorandum Circular No. 47, which Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea issued, said suspension of work and classes was effective 1 pm following the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
"However, those agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services shall continue with their operations and render the necessary services," the MC read.
In the case of the private sector, Medialdea said suspending work is left to the discretion of their respective heads.
Even prior to Medialdea's MC, many local government officials have already class suspensions in their respective places.
Two other branches of government, the legislative and the judiciary, have also suspended their work. Celerina Monte/DMS
