September 12, 2017
Malacanang suspended on Tuesday work in government offices in the three regions, including Metro Manila, due to the effect of Tropical Depression Maring.
Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said the Office of the Executive Secretary suspended the work following the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
Aside from Metro Manila, work in government offices in Regions III or Central Luzon and Region IV-A or Calabarzon were also suspended.
With the suspension of work in government offices, the Philippine Stock Exchange also cancelled trading.
It also announced that there was no clearing and settlement at the Securities Clearing Corporation of the Philippines "due to the suspension of clearing and settlement operations in the Philippine banking system."
Packing maximum sustained winds of 60 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 100 kph, Maring made a landfall over Mauban, Quezon, according to 11:00 am weather bulletin issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
Several flights were also cancelled, while hundreds of passengers were stranded in several ports in Bicol Region. Celerina Monte/DMS
