March 30, 2019
Malacanang on Saturday said they will join in switching off lights in celebration of Earth Hour.
“March 30 tonight, we will join the rest of the world in switching off our lights for Earth Hour,” Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement.
Lights will be switched off starting 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
Panelo said this year’s Earth Hour focuses on the issue of single-use plastics. He urged Filipinos to cut down their use of plastics
.
Based on a report of the United Nations, the Philippines is one of the top five contributors of plastic waste in the world’s ocean.
“This year’s observance of Earth Hour focuses on the issue of single-use plastics, which is a major problem in the country,” he said.
“We therefore call on everyone to cut down the rampant use of plastics as we continue to aspire for a clean, safe and healthy environment,” Panelo added. Ella Dionisio/DMS
