Palace welcomes Consunji’s decision to indemnify owners of collapsed Ecoland 4000

January 12, 2020

Malacañang on Sunday welcomed the acceptance of DMCI President and CEO Isidro “Sid” Consunji to settle the damages endured by the residents of condominium building Ecoland 4000 during the October 2019 earthquake in Davao City.

“We welcome DMCI President and CEO Isidro 'Sid' Consunji’s acceptance to settle the damages endured by the residents of Ecoland 4000 from earthquake in Davao last October 2019,” Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar said in a statement.

Andanar said the settlement will help those who were affected especially in their transfer of residence and recovery from the unfortunate event.

“Had it not been for President (Rodrigo) Duterte’s message, the issue wouldn’t have not been resolved equitably,” he said.

Andanar said businesses and firms should not wait to be called out by the President as having certain issues that are burdening their clients.

“Therefore, we encourage all businesses to be sensitive to and have the interests and needs of their clients at heart. We also urge them to be compliant to the standards and relevant legislations in order to prevent circumstances like these from happening again,” he said.

On Saturday, Urban Property Developers Inc. (UPDI) assured Duterte and their unit owners that they are fully committed to resolving the issue in a fair manner at the soonest possible time.

UPDI is a real estate company owned by the Consunji family.

It made the statement following Duterte’s warning of not renewing Consunji company's permit if it would not address the complaints of its customers whose properties were damaged by the recent earthquakes in Davao City.

The President issued the warning after Consunji made a statement against his continued attacks on two Metro Manila water concessionaires, including Maynilad Water Services wherein DMCI has about 25 percent stake. Ella Dionisio/DMS
