Palace welcomes recount of vice presidential votes
April 2, 2018
Malacanang welcomed on Monday the start of the recount of votes for the election protest by former Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. against Vice President Leni Robredo.
In a press briefing, Senior Deputy Executive Secretary Menardo Guevarra said it would be up to the Supreme Court, acting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal, to handle the matter.
"Well the Palace welcomes the recount to settle that long festering dispute," he said.
"Well other than that, this is a judicial matter; this is before the Presidential Electoral Tribunal already. So we leave it to the co-equal branch to handle that," Guevarra added.
The PET will manually tally the votes for vice presidential race in the automated 2016 polls after Marcos accused Robredo's camp of engaging in massive cheating. Celerina Monte/DMS
