Palace wishes Alvarez well after he quit from ruling PDP-Laban
November 16, 2020
Malacanang wished on Monday former House Speaker and Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez well after he resigned from President Rodrigo Duterte's Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan or PDP-Laban.
Alvarez has said that he quit from the party because he intends to commit and pursue a voter's education campaign for Filipinos given the importance of the 2022 elections.
"On the part of Malacanang, we wish him well," Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a televised press briefing.
He said Alvarez's resignation was his personal decision.
Roque said the lawmaker called him up on Sunday and told him about his decision.
"According to him, the reason is he will engage in voters' education and he may not do it if he is a member of the administration party. So, that's what he told me," he said.
Alvarez, however, has said he accepted the offer of former Defense Secretary Renato de Villa to lead, as chairman, and revive the Reporma Party.
De Villa ran but lost in the 1998 presidential race under his Reporma Party. Celerina Monte/DMS
