The Philippine Coast Guard's Palawan District confiscated 1000 kilos of yellow fin tuna, 50 kilos of tiger shark from five suspected Vietnamese poachers, based on an inventory conducted Friday.
On September 19, authorities arrested them some 35 miles off Bancuran Island in Palawan.
According to Coast Guard spokesperson Ensign Allison Tindog, authorities onboard Cabra (MRRV 4409), while conducting maritime patrol near Tubbataha, received intelligence report about the presence of foreign poachers.
“Upon sighting the Vietnamese vessel with bow number RD 97623TS, they immediately conducted hot pursuit operation. Suspects resisted which made the operation lasted for more than 30 minutes,” he said.
The Coast Guard is set to file charges of poaching against the suspects, who are in the custody of the Palawan Coast Guard. The confiscated fish were donated to the Palawan Provincial Jail. DMS
