Parreno assumes command of the Philippine Marine Corps

Brig. Gen. Alvin Parreño assumed his post as the Commandant of the Philippine Marine Corps in a change of command ceremony in Taguig City on Tuesday.
The ceremony was led by Vice Admiral Ronald Joseph Mercado, Flag Officer in Command, Philippine Navy.
During the ceremony, Parreño replaced Maj. Gen. Emmanuel Salamat who became the new head of the Northern Luzon Command chief Monday.
1Lt. Maria Rowena Dalmacio, spokesperson of the Philippine Marines, said prior to his assumption, Parreño, a member of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class 1986, was the Deputy Commandant of the Philippine Marine Corps.
“He has proven his leadership skills and prowess in fighting separatist and terrorist groups in Mindanao. He received numerous medals and various commendations for his gallantry and dedication to service,” Dalmacio said.
She said Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald Dela Rosa who is also a member of PMA class 1986, was present during the ceremony.
Dalmacio emphasized that Parreño has “held various key positions which honed him to be one of the finest generals of his time.”
“He (Parreño) is a seasoned Marine Officer who began to lead the Marine Rifle Platoon during his junior officer days and grew up as a combat leader in Force Reconnaissance Battalion where he became Commander,” she said.
“He also commanded Marine Battalion Landing Team 3. He was promoted to Brigadier General while he was assigned as Commander, Naval Reserve Command prior to his assignment as Commander, 1st Marine Brigade in 2016,” she added. Robina Asido/DMS
