Pasay cop who told his tenants to leave if they can’t pay rent relieved

June 4, 2020

A police officer whose  dispute with his tenants was posted in video and became viral, was relieved from his post, Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano said on Thursday.

Calixto-Rubiano, said the cop, who is an alleged landlord, was immediately relieved by Pasay City police chief Colonel Ericson Dilag after she ordered him to look into the video-recorded altercation last April.

Calixto-Rubiano said the cop shouted to the tenants leave  for failing to pay their rent during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) period.

“The uploader of the video claimed they were evicted by the landlord-cop from their room in Barangay 145 last April 12 amid the then enhanced community quarantine (ECQ),'' said Calixto-Rubiano.

The complainant uploaded the video of the incident only recently when they returned to retrieve their belongings but were told that they could get their things only if they would settle their two-month unpaid rent,” she said.

She directed Dilag to investigate and undertake necessary measures on the involved policeman if the evidence and facts would merit it.

“Our policemen are among the frontliners that we regard in high esteem. It is very disturbing when one of them gets involved in a controversial incident, especially when he or she causes the eviction of a tenant family in the midst of the ECQ, and allegedly in a high-handed manner at that,” Calixto-Rubiano added.

“Our policemen should not only be in the front lines of ensuring peace and order especially in these trying times, but they must also be examples of caring and compassion toward those who are severely affected by this pandemic,'' she said.

Dilag  said the policeman in the video is assigned at Sub-Station 5 in Baclaran. Ella Dionisio/DMS
