PCG backs BFAR program increase fish stock in Laguna de Bay

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is supporting the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) program to repopulate Laguna de Bay with fishes.
According to PCG the nationwide Balik Sigla sa Ilog at Lawa (Basil) program of the BFAR aims to repopulate Laguna de Bay with tilapia types of fish.
On Wednesday morning, PCG personnel with representatives from the Lake Management Office (LMO) and the BFAR - NCR (National Capital Region , released 30,000 tilapia fingerlings to increase the fish stock in the lake.
These initiatives were made to promote affordable and accessible fisheries in nearby coastal communities.
"Aside from the Laguna de Bay, other priority lakes of the Basil program include Lake Mainit in Surigao del Norte, Naujan Lake in Oriental Mindoro, Buluan Lake in Maguindanao, and Lake Sebu in South Cotabato," the PCG said. Robina Asido/DMS
