The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is coordinating with the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) to monitor the situation on the search for missing crew members of Gulf Livestock 1 a Panamanian-registered freighter where majority of the personnel are Filipinos.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with Japan Coast Guard," PCG spokesman Commodore Armando Balilo said on Tuesday.
Balilo said the Japan Coast Guard has alerted nearby countries to help in the ongoing search and rescue operation.
"As of now, what they do is to alert other countries near them to possibly help on the search and rescue operations. That is the protocol," he said.
"The Japan Coast Guard has complete personnel and equipment. They are one of the highly advanced units in the whole world," he added.
