PCG looking for 12 missing fishermen in Catanduanes

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is looking for 12 fishermen reported missing in Catanduanes in the wake of Typhoon ''Quinta''.

Mark Timbal, National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) spokesman, said according to Bicol RDRRMC (Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council), 12 fishermen were reported missing in Barangay Pananogan, Bato; Cagdarao, Panganiban, District 3, and Gigmoto in Catanduanes.

Typhoon ''Quinta'', now moving west-northwest over the West Philippine Sea,  affected thousands of families in different regions in Luzon.

 NDRRMC said a total 2,823 families were affected by ''Quinta'' in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, and the Cordillera Administration Region.

There are 1,493 staying in 68 evacuation centers while 968 are outside the evacuation centers.

NDRRMC said there 11 flooding incidents reported in Laguna, Camarines Sur, Negros Occidental, Samar, and Apayao because of ''Quinta'' while seven landslides occurred in Laguna, Aklan, Samar, and Apayao.

"Typhoon Quinta also damaged Caraycaray Detour Bridge in Naval, Biliran province. The local Department of Public Works and Highways personnel have installed warning signs and is assessing the condition of the bridge," it stated.

"Typhoon Quinta has also affected 33 roads in Cagayan, Laguna, Rizal, Camarines Sur, Masbate, Catanduanes, and Apayao," it added.

PCG said there were approximately 10 maritime incidents monitored by their station in Batangas on Monday.

"Two of which sank, four have run aground while the four others are still for verification," said PCG.

As of 4 pm, the PCG Command Center has recorded a total of: 605 passengers, truck drivers, and cargo helpers stranded in Southern Tagalog, Bicol, Western Visayas, and Palawan due to Quinta.

A total of 20 vessels, 12 motorbancas and 472 rolling cargoes were also stranded because of the typhoon. Robina Asido/DMS
