The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) transported more 100 policemen to augment government forces in Cebu City amid the implementation of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) to contain the rising Covid-19 cases in the city.
Commodore Armando Balilo, PCG spokesman, said 107 Philippine National Police (PNP) Special Action Force (SAF) personnel have undergone rapid body testing before they boarded BRP Gabriela Silang (OPV-8301) which departed Pier 15, South Harbor around 10:30 am.
"The frontline personnel will be transported to Cebu City to further intensify the PNP operation in the city amid the COVID-19 pandemic," he said.
Aside from the PNP SAF personnel, BRP Gabriela Silang is also carrying 51 locally stranded individuals.
The LSIs will be transported to Zamboanga, General Santos City, Davao, and Cagayan de Oro.
The PCG checks body temperature and distribute hygiene kits to passengers to maintain cleanliness inside the ship during the three-day trip.
Balilo said the PCG will also provide free food, accommodation and regular health check-up for the locally stranded individuals.
He said BRP Gabriela Silang also carries additional medical supplies for the frontline health worker in Cebu and Cagayan de Oro. Robina Asido/DMS
