PDEA set to destroy one ton of seized illegal drugs on Oct. 15 in Cavite
October 12, 2020
Following the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Monday said they are scheduled to destroy at least one ton of seized illegal drugs on October 15.
During Laging Handa briefing, PDEA spokesperson Derrick Carreon said these will go up in smoke in Trece Martires, Cavite.
"We are now preparing because on October 15, this coming Thursday, we are scheduled to burn at least one ton of dangerous drugs in our destruction site in Trece Martires, Cavite," Carreon said.
Based on their latest inventory, he said a total of 2.82 tons of illegal drugs valued at P15.189 billion needs to be destroyed.
Carreon said last August P13 billion worth of illegal drugs were also destroyed in Cavite.
He explained that the reason hey are still confiscating illegal drugs in their inventory is because their operations are ongoing.
“When we destroy, a new seizure will enter (in our inventory) that’s why the thinking of people is it is not decreasing… but because our campaign (against illegal drugs) continues,” Carreon said.
Last October 5, Duterte ordered law enforcement agencies to destroy all confiscated illegal drugs in one week so it could no longer be recycled by individuals. Ella Dionisio/DMS
