Former President Fidel V. Ramos underscored on Sunday that the bloodless People Power Revolution 32 years ago was only the start of change.
Ramos, who was one among those who defected from the administration of Ferdinand Marcos, led the commemoration of the 32nd anniversary of Edsa People Power Revolution at the People Power Monument in Quezon City.
For the second time since he assumed the presidency, President Rodrigo Duterte skipped the celebration.
"First of all, the 1986 Edsa People Power Revolution is the only start of our change, it's not the end," Ramos said in a speech, adding, "The outcome which is a better for all Filipinos."
Aside from unity, Ramos also reminded Filipinos about solidarity in values.
"What values? Love of God. What I want to say is love of God, love of people, love of country, patriotism, love of nature," he said.
He also said teamwork is also needed in achieving better future for the country.
Ramos was conferred the People's Power Award during the event.
A Holy Mass, followed by flag-raising and wreath-laying rites were also held. A reenactment of the “Salubungan,” the coming together of the military and civilians during the Edsa revolution, was also conducted. Ella Dionisio/DMS
