PET sets March recount of votes in 2016 vice presidential race

February 8, 2018

The Supreme Court, acting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), will begin next month a recounting of votes in the 2016 vice presidential election.

The recount, originally set this month, pushed through after the camps of Vice President Leni Robredo and former Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. withdrew their pending motions.

The recount starts on March 19 and will cover three pilot provinces of Camarines Sur, Iloilo and Negros Oriental identified by Marcos as areas where he could prove irregularities he cited in his poll protest against Robredo.

Robredo won the vice presidential race with 14, 418, 817 while Marcos got 14, 155, 344.

Marcos, son of the late President Ferdinand Marcos, went to the Supreme Court Thursday afternoon to join supporters seeking a speedy decision of his case.

Marcos rejected calls for him to run for senator and move on from his defeat. "I will not run for senator in 2019," he said. DMS
