Philhealth adopts new COVID-19 case rate package starting April 15
April 7, 2020
Individuals to be admitted in hospitals and medical facilities due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) will be using the new case rate package of the Philippine Health Insurance Corp.(PhilHealth) starting April 15.
In a televised press briefing, PhilHealth President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ricardo Morales said the new COVID-19 case rate package will be comprised of four categories.
"Our basis will be the date of admission (of the COVID-19 patients)," he added.
Under the approved guidelines, mild pneumonia package is set at P43,997; moderate pneumonia at P143,267; severe pneumonia at P333,519; and critical pneumonia at P786,384.
"Pneumonia is the complication of COVID-19," said Morales.
PhilHealth is using the isolation package amounting to P14,000 for COVID-19 patients and persons under investigation (PUIs), while also covering the testing cost, and using existing case rate packages.
Morales said they have approved the release of almost P6 billion for COVID-19 patients.
Morales said limited operations of banks make it difficult to transfer the money.
"We’re trying our best. We are talking with banks so we can hasten the release of funds," said Morales.
"We are reminding hospital administrators that COVID-19 patients shouldn't be charged and that PhilHealth will shoulder everything," said Morales. DMS
