Philippines receives medical equipment from Chinese defense ministry

The Philippines received P14 million worth of medical equipment, especially personal protective equipment, from the Ministry of National Defense of China on Tuesday night.

This was announced by Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana in a briefing on Wednesday.

"I was the one who received the donation from Ambassador Huang Xilian last night, and its donation of medical supplies mostly personal protective equipment (PPEs) from the Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) and it was brought by Peoples Liberation Army Air Force to the Philippines," he said.

"It is about 2,000,000 RMB yuan which is equivalent to about 14 million pesos and we are very thankful to the PLA for this donation. It will go a long way to help our fight against COVID," he added.

The donation includes 50,000 medical disposable masks, 6,000 medical surgical masks, 6,000 KN95 masks, 4,200 medical protective goggles, 3000 disposable medical face shields, 3000 one piece disposable protective coveralls, 3000 disposable waterproof isolation gowns, 6000 medical boots sets, 50 boxes of disposable nitrile gloves, 30 infusion pumps, two knapsack disinfectant sprayers, 50 infrared forehead thermometers and two thermal imaging smart helmets.

Lorenzana said the donation will be part of the inventory of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD).

"It will be part of the inventory of the OCD which is under the defense department and we support all government hospitals and some private hospitals if they are in need of these equipment, PPEs especially," he said. Robina Asido/DMS
