PISTON, KMU vow “bigger and more powerful transport strike”
October 17, 2017
Jeepney driver organization PISTON and Kilusang Mayo Uno said it ended its two-day nationwide strike on Tuesday but warned that "bigger and more powerful transport strike and people's protest" will be held in the few months as it tries to force the Philippine government to junk its jeepney modernization program.
In a joint statement, the two groups say the jeepney phase-out scheme encountered "strong rejection by the transport sector as proven by the 90 percent participation in our two-day nationwide transport strike."
"This only forces us to hold more strikes in the next months until the government’s phase-out scheme is junked," the joint statement added.
However, Land Transport Franchising and Regulatory Board spokesperson Aileen Lizada said only 10 percent of commuters have been affected by the transport strike. DMS
