PNP advises public to report extortion, threat messages from Reds

March 13, 2019

Authorities on Wednesday warned the public about extortion and threat messages being circulated recently through text messages and social media by alleged communist rebels.

“If you received such information through your mobile phones, please do not hesitate to report to the nearest police station for verification and possible operation. Help us stop this scheme of spreading fear to the public. Do not share or pass the text message to anyone, just report it immediately so as not to create panic or harm,” said Eastern Police District Acting Director, Police Chief Superintendent Christopher Tambungan.

Tambungan said the entire Metro-East that covers the cities of Pasig, Mandaluyong, Marikina and San Juan had been peaceful for the past years which could be attributed to the effective partnership and cooperation with the private organizations and business sectors.

He said that EPD would not tolerate the spreading of fear and extortion schemes that would undermine the current peaceful situation in Metro-East.

“Likewise, continuous counter intelligence efforts and target hardening measures will be implemented to the government, private/ non-private offices and vital installations as well as further strengthening the conduct of beat and boarder patrolling to the places of convergence to prevent such threats from occurring,” he said.

The Eastern Police Director urged the public to report messages that contain similar threats and extortion to the Eastern Police District’s Tactical Operations Center at 641-0877 or cell phone numbers 09985987874. Ella Dionisio/DMS
