PNP apologizes for Quiapo blast

May 8, 2017

The Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald Dela Rosa apologized for the recent explosion that killed two people and injured six others in Quiapo, Manila. “Yes, on our part we can explain our side. Other intelligence agencies aside from the PNP should be given time to explain why it happened. We are not looking for alibi. There is really an explosion, he said. “We are very sorry. They got past us... we are not making alibi, there was really an explosion and we are very sorry for that,” he added. Dela Rosa said PNP does not see terrorism as a possible motive. “I’ll just want to clarify that as far as the motive is concerned we don't see any terror angle on motive but on the person that carry out the attack it can be,” he said “We in the PNP we stick to the facts that we got from the investigation and we stand by our claim that these isolated cases not connected to the April 28,” Dela Rosa added. In an ambush interview in Camp Aguinaldo, Brig. Gen. Restituto Padilla said the explosion was not related to terrorism. “As I told you this is not related to terrorism just like what the police mentioned. It is a purely law enforcement function there is a credible lead which indicates that the bomb was meant for a personality and that personality is already interviewed. That lead is now being used by the police to investigate the case,” he said. “This is purely a law enforcement function and the police is clearly doing its job in investigating it. The claim of whatever group is not true, don't be a victim, and don’t be an accessory to propaganda that is being peddled around,” he added. A blast also occurred along Quezon Boulevard corner Soler St.last April 28 where 14 were injured. (Robina Asido/DMS)
