The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday asked the public to let the investigation proceed the death of the former Jolo, Sulu police chief who was facing charges related to the killing of four Philippine Army intelligence officers in Maguindanao last June.
In a press briefing, Brig. General Ildebrandi Usana, PNP spokesman, said PNP chief General Debold Sinas has instructed the regional director of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao to put special attention to this case.
“Not only because the victim was a ranking police officer, but also because his death is vulnerable to undue speculation that will only serve to muddle the investigation,” Usana said.
Sinas appealed to allow the investigation on the death of Lt. Col. Walter Annayo who was shot dead in Maguindanao last Saturday.
“My appeal is for everyone to please allow the investigation to proceed and to avoid entertaining baseless theories and unverified information. After all, our common objective is to find out the truth and serve the ends of justice,” he said.
“I am confident that sooner or later there will be a significant breakthrough in the investigation, perhaps a solid lead that will take us closer to the logical conclusion of this case,” he added.
Sinas said he requested the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) to assist the Bangsomoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao police. Ella Dionisio/DMS
