PNP backs Duterte, will pursue operations vs NPAs
December 8, 2020
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Debold Sinas on Tuesday said they support the declaration of President Rodrigo Duterte that there will be no holiday truce with the communist rebels.
In his press briefing, Sinas said they will continue to pursue their operations against the New People's Army (NPA).
“We support the statement of the President… Our deployment is still there… Where there is a SOMO (Suspension of Military Operations), we are just on the defense mode,” he said.
“But since there is none, our operations continue, our deployment in different identified areas where NPA rebels are hiding will continue. There is no withdrawal,” he added.
Last night, Duterte said that the truce with the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army-National Democratic Front would no longer be feasible under his administration.
Because of his recent statement, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) expressed its gratitude towards the President for heeding their recommendation not to declare a holiday truce with the communist group. Ella Dionisio/DMS
