PNP building up cases against narcopoliticians

August 4, 2017

The spokesman of the Philippine National Police said  Friday criminal investigators are  conducting "continuous case buildup" against Peter Lim and other narcopoliticians for alleged drug trade links.

"The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and other enforcement agencies are continuously conducting validation and case buildup. If we have the goods and it will prosper in a criminal court, then we will take legal action for violating the law", Chief Superintendent Dionardo Carlos said in an interview with ANC.

President Rodrigo Duterte tagged Cebu-based businessman Peter Lim and two other personalities on July 7, 2016 for allegedly involved in illegal drugs.

Carlos said PNP need more concrete evidence and affidavits that can be used in court.

He said PNP will take legal action against all the names included in the narco-list if there is enough evidence.

"No favorites because if all those in the list and if we have enough evidence against them then we will take legal action against these personalities", Carlos said.

He said Iloilo City Mayor Jed Mabilog, who was included in the list of politicians linked to drugs, has nothing to be afraid if he followed the instruction of President Rodrigo Duterte not be involved with illegal drugs.

Carlos said over 200 firearms are in custody of Ozamiz police after warnings were given to surrender unregistered firearms.

"Anybody, any Filipino or foreigner in the country that is in possession of any loose or unregistered firearms please surrender them to the authorities", he said.

He said the surrendered firearms will be recorded and kept in the PNP storage until the owner acquire the necessary documents. Alanna Ambi/DMS
